My expertise is in helping athletes improve their performance and peak for a particular race to achieve their goals. I address all of the other key aspects, both mental and physical, that you need to get right to perform at your best on the day of your chosen race. There is nothing better in running than feeling great, giving your best and achieving a cherished goal.
I am a lifelong runner. I co-founded running group Rye Runners in 2010 with my wife Sam Murphy (www.sam-murphy.co.uk) and I am a British Athletics Endurance Coach (level 2).

I am well versed and successful in the art of peaking. I was part of the British Orienteering Squad throughout my youth (I was British Junior Champion twice) and successfully peaked to run sub-2.30 for the London Marathon in my twenties. Later, on turning 40, I won The Grizzly, The North Downs Run and The Beachy Head Marathon in 2013. I also won the inaugural Centurion Wendover Woods 50 mile race (only my second ultra) in 2016. This year, as a V45, I ran a lifetime PB of 1.09.41 in the Big Half and close to PB 2.31.23 in the Brighton Marathon.
I combine what I have learned from my many years of racing experience with my extensive coaching knowledge and skills to help and guide others to achieve their running goals.
How My Coaching Works
I work with you to structure a bespoke training plan that will enable and motivate you to ramp up your performance and peak for a specific race (half-marathon and upwards, road or trail). The plan will be tailored to your fitness level, experience and goals. This joint, personal process will give you the confidence that you have a clear path to success.
The plan is delivered through the Final Surge software in two-week blocks, with each subsequent block adapted in response to your progress and your feedback (visible to me through your Final Surge session reports).

For your convenience, you can get in touch any time with specific queries by email. We will speak once a week, normally for half an hour, scheduled at a time to suit you, when I will advise and guide you having studied your feedback and listened to any concerns. As well as your training we will discuss race strategy, kit, shoes, race-day nutrition and mental approach.
